First Swim Meet Details
Hello Piranhas Swimmers and Families,
OUR FIRST SWIM MEET IS ONLY TWO DAYS AWAY!!!!
Here are a few housekeeping items regarding this meet and future meets.
Please arrive at the pool location by 5:15 pm for team prep work and warmups. Meet will start at 6:15 pm.
Please plan to stay for the final relays as well. Coaches will explain to your swimmer and to our bullpen volunteers how the relays work.
PLEASE PLAN ROUTES ACCORDINGLY TO ACCOMMODATE TRAFFIC!
ADDRESS:
Parking is at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 200 Joseph E Lowery Blvd SW, Atlanta GA, 30314. Do not park on the campus of Morehouse College.
The pool is at Archer Hall on the campus of Morehouse College, across the street from Mount Moriah, on the corner of Joseph E Lowry Blvd and Atlanta Student Movement Blvd.
The location is close to our pool, but still traffic still might be slow at that time so plan accordingly. Reach out to team parents if transportation for children is needed, we can often find carpools!
Warm up and meet start time: Warm up will start at 5:30. The meet will begin at 6:15. All meets begin with relays: 5-6 year old free relays and 7 and up begin with medley relays. If this is your first meet, do not worry! We’ll teach everyone what to do including volunteers! 😀
What to bring: For your swimmers: (suit, goggles, at least 2 towels) and change of clothes. Some kids also appreciate a chair. Your swimmer will be getting wet and drying off frequently. Clothes are good to have around to stay warm/dry.
What to wear: Swimmers wear their racing suits and their white swim caps to represent Piranhas Pride. If you have been unable to pick yours up this weekend, suits and caps for swimmers attending the meet will be at the pool by 5 PM
Home Team/Home Pool: This is an indoor pool in the Archer Hall Recreation Center. The pool at Archer Hall hosts a number of events that promote diversity in aquatics, and the Morehouse Tiger Sharks are a relatively new team in the ASA league. This is our first year swimming with this team, and we are excited to meet them!
Away Team (Glenwood Park Piranhas) Warm-up: 5:30Bull Pen: When we arrive at the pool, we will receive specifics about deck space and we will let everyone know where different age groups should be. We will probably ask all our swimmers and bull pen groups to remain close together to make it easier to set up the events, especially the relays.Concessions/ snacks: Since this pool is new to us, we are unfamiliar with the concessions set-up. We recommend that families pack their own snacks and drinks for their families.
Seating/Shade: The whole meet will be shady, yay! Consider bringing chairs in case the bleacher space is limited.
Swimmers: Swimmers will be grouped together by age (6&u boys/girls, 8&U boys/girls 10&U boys/girls etc.). This will help with organization and help us/Bullpen Coordinators find your swimmers when it is time to race. If you signed up to work a bullpen shift come see Martha and she’ll give you a badge to wear to help identify you for other parents.
*Note* When your swimmers are not racing, please help coaching staff by keeping your kids in their designated area and not wandering around in the pool deck, locker rooms, etc. We know some kids like to hang with parents when they are not swimming, and if this is the case with your swimmer, please come hang out with your swimmer’s bullpen so we know where your kids are!
Sunscreen/ Bug Repellent: (not an issue this meet, whew)
Volunteers: Volunteers are what make the meets happen and without your help they cannot and will not run successfully. Each team is required to provide volunteers so if you have not signed up so far please lend a hand! We cannot start the meet without your help! Every job lasts half the meet. You will switch with another volunteer so everyone gets to enjoy the swim meet. Please don't hesitate to assist!
Meet Essentials: Please see the attached "Meet Essentials" document. This will get you meet-ready and understand the swimming world. In the meet information section of this page you will find the .pdf documents that are referenced in the how to's page. *NOTE* FEEL FREE TO ASK YOUR COACHES FOR HELP. We want to help you learn the process as well as the swimmers.
What to do: Cheer your swimmer and teammates on to a VICTORY!
If you have any questions, concerns or you are running late please email me at [email protected].
Thanks,
Coach Nate & YOUR GWP Piranhas Coaching Staff
