Meet #2 is tomorrow at Northumberland
Happy Monday, everyone,
Meet #2 at Northumberland is just a day away.
- The address: 2807 Danby Court, Atlanta, GA 30340
- Arrival time: 5 PM. Warmup 5:15 PM. Meet start time: 6 PM. Provide extra time to find parking.
- Upon arrival at the swim meet, you will check in with Malessa Paez and Stephanie Ho so we can keep track of who’s arrived. They will provide an overview of the volunteer duties and let you know where your station is located.
- Try to mark up your swimmer in advance. We’ll send heat sheets tomorrow.
What to bring: For your swimmers: (suit, goggles, at least 2 towels) and change of clothes. Some kids also appreciate a chair. Your swimmer will be getting wet and drying off frequently. Clothes are good to have around to stay warm/dry. Sunscreen and insect repellent are good to have on hand. Bring hats for children and adults who are sun-sensitive.
What to wear: Swimmers wear their racing suits and their white swim caps to represent Piranhas pride. If you have been unable to pick your suits and caps up, we will have them at the meet.
Home Team/Home Pool: This is the first time we have swum at Northumberland. It is a 6-lane 25 yard pool We will learn the rest tomorrow!
Away Team (Glenwood Park Piranhas) Warm-up: 5:15 PM
Swimmers: Swimmers will be grouped together by age (6&u boys/girls, 8&U boys/girls 10&U boys/girls etc.). This helps with organization and helps us (deck managers and coaches) find your swimmers when it is time to race. If you signed up to work a bullpen shift you will check in when you arrive and receive further information about where to set up and what to do.
*Note* When your swimmers are not racing, please help coaching staff by keeping your kids in their designated area and not wandering around in the pool deck, locker rooms, etc. We know some kids like to hang with parents when they are not swimming, and if this is the case with your swimmer, please come hang out with your swimmer’s bullpen so we know where your kids are!
Volunteers: Thank you to all the volunteers who signed up already!
In order to ease the frenzy at the beginning and end of the meet, I have created new sets of volunteer roles to set up relays. Please check out the job list and consider signing up for a relay set-up job. The intention here is to make sure the kids aged 5-10 have assistance with setting up relay order and getting to the deck to dive in on time, doing the assigned stroke. In some cases you can do this job even if you’re signed up for another one.
The hope is that parents can manage the deck and swimmer order, so that our coaches can stay on deck and watch the swimming.
We still need the following jobs filled in these categories
BULLPENS
- Boys 7/8 bullpen, both halves
- Boys 9/10 bullpen, second half
- Girls’ 5/6 bullpen- 1 more needed
- Girls' 7/8 bullpen- 1 for second half
RELAYS
Check out the sign-up chart and and see what there is left (bullpen parents will also help with relay setup)
DECK
- Computer workers - 1 for second half
- Deck manager- 1 for second half
- Place judge- both halves
- Master recorder- 1 for second half
- Timers- 6 for second half still needed!!
From our hosts:
Parking: All parking is on the streets surrounding the pool club. Please try to keep parking on Whitby Dr, Greenrock Trail, and Umberland Dr. Street parking should be kept to ONE side of the road to allow emergency vehicles to pass if necessary.
Bullpen: The visitor’s bullpen is located on the Volleyball court at the rear of the pool (we cover the sand court with tarps.). Please bring chairs. Bullpen parents and volunteers should plan to stay with the students the entire shift.
Timers and deck workers meeting: We will have a meeting for timers at 5:45 pm. We are using a new system this season that is extremely easy to use, but all timers should attend this brief meeting. The Piranhas are required to provide 6 timers for each half.
Concessions: The concession stand will offer Salads, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, Pizza, snacks, fruit, and beverages. Small-denomination cash, Venmo, and PayPal are accepted. There will be a QR Code to scan for Venmo and PayPal payments.
Meet Essentials: Please see the attached "Meet Essentials" document. This will get you meet-ready and understand how to mark up your swimmer for the events. If you are unclear about something, ASK THE COACHES FOR HELP. We want to help you learn the process as well as the swimmers.
What to do: Enjoy the night and cheer your swimmer and our team on to a VICTORY!
If you have any questions or concerns, or you are running late please email Coach Nate at [email protected] and Martha at [email protected].
See you tomorrow!
