Sign up for Meet #4 at Malo Aquatics
Greetings Piranhas Parents,
Signup for Swim meet 4 at Malo Aquatics is open until tomorrow, June 15, at 12 PM! (Note: if you signed up earlier and your plans have changed, please confirm or edit your selections
Malo Aquatics swims at a DeKalb County park in Lithonia, GA. The address is 2501 Park Dr; Lithonia, GA 30058.This will be our 3rd year swimming there. They usually run a concessions stand. The pool is 6-lanes, 25 yards, shallow (around 4 ft. deep), and there are no diving blocks. There are bleachers, but we recommend you also bring chairs to be closer to the bullpens, especially with younger children. Please read the special volunteer plea for this week below.
After this, there are only 2 meets left: Leslie Beach Club (dual meet/ 2 teams) and the ASA Championship (many teams) at GA Tech on June 27! Sign-up for the Leslie Beach Club meet is open. The Championship meet sign-up will open this week.

VOLUNTEER REQUEST:
Special volunteer plea for this week
At our last meet, we did not have enough people sign up for bullpens. This meant that a few people stayed on deck the entire time. Please sign up for the later shifts to take over from those who start the meet. Bullpenning for 4 hours is truly exhausting, and while I appreciate those who are willing to do this, and we all praise them for their amazing gift of energy, it’d be much better if there were just more people to share the load. You know the saying, many hands make light work…. This is especially needed for 7-10 year old boys. There are at least 30 of these boys, and they need a lot of supervision. 30 boys= a minimum of 30 parents, right? Last week we only had 4-5 volunteers to help with these little guys!
Pleading done, back to the regular message:
- IF YOUR SWIMMER IS ENTERED IN THE MEET, after you register your swimmer, click the green Job Signup button. Choose a job. We need everyone to volunteer. :)
- See this link for job descriptions. If you like to interact more directly with kids, or you want to be with your swimmer, choose bullpen parent. If you like to be in charge, choose deck manager. If you’d rather keep the stats, choose timing, recording, computer manager, or place judge.
- Upon arriving at the meet pool, you will check in with the volunteer sign-in person. They will provide an overview of the volunteer duties and let you know where your station is located.
- There is always a timing meeting at the beginning of each meet. Coaches from our team (or the other one if necessary) will explain the roles if you don’t know them.
If you have volunteered, you know how it works: parent volunteers make swim meets happen. It is fun! You have to try it to like it.
FAQ
- Who chooses what events my child will swim? Coaches choose swimmer’s races. You can expect that each swimmer will do two individual events and two relays (only 1 relay for 5-6 year olds).. The only exceptions allowed are when there is a very small number of swimmers in an age group. This is typically the case only with our older groups (i.e. 15 and up).
- Swimtopia says “Start: 6:00 PM.” When do we need to be there? We ask that families be at the meet pool by 5:00 PM at the latest.
- How much time do I have to declare my swimmers? Each week, meet registration closes on Saturdays at 12 PM. I’lll send a reminder when the deadline is getting close.
- What is the schedule? The final TUESDAY meet is 6/18. Our one and only MONDAY meet is 6/24. The ASA Championship is THURSDAY, 6/27.
Let me know what questions you have!
